What does Amazon’s launch mean for other SA businesses and how does it impact our economy?

May 15, 2024

Some have been quick to point out that profits made by Amazon will just be sent off-shore to international shareholders but it’s important to recognise the positive impact that their local operation is already having on local companies like the couriers that they have partnered with, the local IT companies working with them and the BEE companies which they have committed to uplift. Not to mention all the jobs which they are creating!

Besides consumers are already happily spending millions of Rands each day on sites like Temu and Shein and that money is leaving the country immediately without any benefits to the local economy – if anything it’s detrimental to our economy.

So we need to recognise that Amazon is investing heavily into our growth.

And we need to recognise that this is possibly one of the biggest business opportunities of our lifetime because the biggest online retailer in the world has just opened up and allows all companies to partake in their success by listing and selling on their marketplace.

You see, here at the Insaka eCommerce Academy I’ve said it time and time again that eCommerce is the great equalizer whereby entrepreneurs big and small are able to get involved and marketplaces like Amazon offer the ability to put your products in front of millions of customers straight away.
